Electrical
Recommendations
For a decidedly more comfortable life
style and redundant operational security:
We recommend Fourwinds first, combined
with a water generator, or conversion kit if you plan a lot of down
wind sailing like across major oceans. Wind generators provide 1 or
2 amps downwind, water generators 5 to 8+ amps. For the money spent
a wind generator will put more amps into your batteries than any
other alternate source of energy.
A combination Fourwinds II or Red Baron
and solar panels is better if you need more AmpHours per day (AH/D),
or if many calm days are expected. Two Fourwinds II or Red Barons
and three 75 watt Solar Panels can provide 50+ amps of charging
power. We can regulate all these amps with our VR-5 voltage
regulator.
Still lacking? A High Output Alternator
and Smart Regulator will reduce your engine running time to a
minimum.
With Alternate energy available, lots of
fresh water can be produced with Spectra or PUR’s 12-volt reverse
osmosis water makers. Five to sixteen gallons of pure water per day
can be produced using only 16 AH/D. The PUR PS 40E converts into a
manually operated water maker making it ideal to serve as the ship’s
water maker as well as one for the life raft. Ask us for mounting
recommendations.
If you would like pure water and lots of
amps at the same time, a small diesel powered alternator/water maker
will compliment #1, 2 or 3 above.
If you can’t decide call us. We’ll help
solve your alternate energy problems as we have done for numerous
NOW happy cruisers.
With all this power, for the comfort of
the Admiral, we suggest an inverter, water maker and bread machine
be part of the ship’s equipment. Making her cruising life
comfortable will make the Captains comfortable also.
